Happy Red Pinwheels

Happy Lap Quilt made from 2 1/2" strips and pinwheels made from strips. Based on a tutorial from MSQC.

Quilted on the frame with the Juli for borders I did a simple loop in the body with feathers and curves in the borders.

I placed a whole line of leftover 2 1/2 inch scraps on the back.

Finished the quilting on the frame and the borders on the juki.

Pinwheels

I started this project with an idea and a fabric pull. Blue small scale florals purchased together in Anaheim and pinks from stash.

Fun Fact: The purple/pink fabric, that ended up on the border, was purchased by me in the 80s. I made myself some beloved MC Hammer Pants that I wore until they fell apart!

Started cutting, piecing and deciding which pinks with which blues. Added a pink, removed a pink. I followed the Missouri Star tutorial except I started with 4" squares instead of 5".

It came together nicely! I put it on the frame and thread scribbled on it. I tried out some quilting rulers (they worked sort of) but QUICKLY felt restricted so just free handed it.

Backed, listed and on to my next project!

CONNECT 2023

What is God calling me to in 2023?

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, our priest changed up the services and instead of a sermon, invited us to participate by listening to several readings. We were given time after each reading to meditate and asked to jot down words that were meaningful.  I wrote down CONNECT even before we started. From the readings I wrote, Give You Peace, The Work of your Fingers, and Treasured. I continued the next several days with the readi gs and realized God was calling me to CONNECT for 2023. Connect with God, family, feelings, ministry, my husband.

In order to meditate on and pray this year, I made my own Intention Quilt.

Inspired by a Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial https://youtu.be/zq6zRYLMHK4

I used quarter yard cutes cut into 9.5 inch blocks. Thr block size finishes at 6".

Betty's Healing Quilt: Double Square Star

My Niece and God Daughter Betty has had a rough year, and I decided to make a quilt for her to wrap up in and know she is covered and loved by her auntie.

This quilt is one I really enjoy making! Made with a charm pack, 11 background strips and 5 accent strips, it comes together like magic! I added a border from stash that is over 20 years old, I never finished the quilt I originally bought it for!

Triple Play: 3 Double Square Star Halloween Quilts with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star

The quilting is a free motion meander. I used 80% cotton 20% poly batting for a luxurious, warm, cuddly quilt.

A little handmade tag.

The backing from stash with a spot for an inscription.

Cheerful Yellow Double Square Star

My goodness look at this bright yellow pinwheel in this beautiful lap quilt! I started this quilt with a friend in mind (Lisa Gagne retirement)  then Janice suggested the Road to Oklahoma  for Lisa. and I changed my mind so it's now ready to offer for sale. The quilting is a wavy lazy horizontal line about every 2 to 3 inches, and then some loopy designs on the top and bottom borders.

The blocks are on  either crisp white or the palest of yellows backgrounds. The back is a different shade of yellow widened with a scrap from the beautiful pink with tones used in the borders.  The pinwheels just pop off of this quilt! After pinning I realized it was about 1 inch too thin! I added a strip onto each side without unpinning it. Problem solved!

You can see the tiny additional width I needed to add...

SOLD!

Pinwheels and Four Patches, Double Square Star

This sweet lap quilt was inspired by a tutorial by Jenny Doan named Pinwheel Frolic... but inspired only, I changed it up a bit. It was fun to make with a charm pack and some pink and peach yardage.

Dedicated for JANICE  in 2021 for her retirement from NICU. We shared a retirement party!
