Winter Cold Bedspread for a Toddler

Could not be simpler!  A charm pack and some white and blue background 5" squares combine to make a cold weather bedspread for a toddler bed/crib.

Triangles Wedding Quilt

Made for a young couple getting married, the daughter of a friend of mine marrying an Intern of Pete's.
It's a lap sized quilt, in muted colors with an occasional bright surprise, that was from a charm pack and I added grays and the big blue triangles. It has triangles, geese and half square triangles.  All blocks I love to make!

Around The World at Christmas

I made a very simple 5" squares patchwork blanket, backed with flannel, for the diaper changing table at Christmas season.  With the leftover scraps, I saw a color story, and made a scrap charm quilt for some future Christmas time baby!

Another Advent Quilt

Several years ago, at a clearance sale at Quilt In A Day, I found these charming panels of pockets, to make Advent quilts. You stuff the numbered pockets with a treat, and count down the days until Christmas!  So, each year, as another child I know needs and Advent Calendar, I pull out a panel and make one!

Solid Exes Quilt

Following a tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt, I made this quilt from old solids in my stash.  I was going for dull colors, but with good contrast with black.  I made one with dark blue, but the contrast wasn't enough, so it was replaced.

Each block is 9 1/2 inches, so the quilt is 47.5 by 57.  Good size for a lap quilt.

Francie's Weighted Nap Quilt

My sister-in-law asked me to make a nap quilt for her grand daughter, with weight to it, to help her nap at pre school.  I did a little reading on line, and realized it was not much different than fabric bead-stuffed "frogs" we use in the Neonatal Intensive Care for newborns suffering pain, or drug withdrawl, that simply provide a little weight on their bodies and console them.

The poly, washable beads were not difficult to purchase online (I found them on ETSY) and made a simple flannel blanket that I left open on 2 sides when I turned it right side out.  I top stitched vertically, top stitched a line right down the middle horizontally.  I decided on the weight (10% of body weight plus 1 pound) and used a funnel to load one row at a time.  Then to the machine to close up that row, and on to the next.

I left the very edges unstuffed, figuring the weight would be best utilized if concentrated in the center.

My cost for materials was around $15 for beads and flannel (Flannel on sale; it used 3 1/2 yard cuts for the blocks and a 1 1/2 yard piece for the back.) and the beads.  I have been told they can cost hundreds to purchase.

Memorial Baby Quilt

Split Four Patch Baby Quilt

This pattern is a favorite of mine for baby boy quilts.  It uses a charm pack plus yardage.  I can sort and sew it in a few hours.  I like the look of it.  I can vary it by the size of the four patch splitting cuts.

I made this quilt for a friend who was expecting her third child and hoping for a first son.

The charm pack was cute cartoon fish: sharks, fishies, nautical symbols.

Birthday Panel Quilt

Found this great panel of powerful girls at my favorite Anaheim Fabric Warehouse.  Just in time for Kendall's 5th birthday!  There were 8 panels, so I added a 9th, center panel of pink HST's to make it even. I added a lightweight cotton batting, and backed it with rainbow horses flannel, so it's nice and cozy!

She loved it!

Dramatic Baby Tumbler Quilt

I made 2 tumbler quilts at the same time, for the second sons of two different friends.  This one is dramatic, bright, not traditionally baby colors, and the setting is also unusual, the tumblers set into columns, and balanced one on top of the other.  I used a black and white charm pack (with a few black and white squares left over from other projects) and a little over a yard of red cotton.  I discovered my Wal Mart has 100% cotton solids for $3 a yard.  I have washed it, and it's color fast.  Who Knew?

This one is also stitched in the ditch.

Sporty Tumbler Quilt

For a friend's second child, and second boy, I chose a tumbler pattern.  I love this pattern, there is so much variety in settings, color, placement.  I started with a sports themed charm pack. I used this same charm pack in another baby quilt recently and wanted to use the same colors but make this look totally different.  I used a near solid blue sparingly, then more intensively to give it a modern look.
Simply machine quilted in the ditches.

Sister's Choice Quilt for Baby

I made this baby quilt out of 4 leftover blocks from the quilt I made for my Mother-In-Law's birthday quilt. I had 4 blocks and a few scraps and partial block pieces, exactly enough to make this sweet white muslin quilt.  I love white muslin.  It's so soft when washed, with a little texture.  So white. Imperfect. It shrinks nicely, giving my quilts that rumply feeling I love.

ABC Quilt (Square in a Square and Geese)

Zeke is two and a half, and is beginning to love ABC books read out loud.  Time for an Alphabet Quilt!  Went out to the stash, I knew I had several, (and I do!) but the one I found right on top was the perfect fabric!  I bought it..... some time ago.  Probably before being a Grandma!

The alphas were all little Richard Scarry drawings, many of them little silly vehicles,  and characters from his books.  I cut them all to a 4 1/2 inch square, then took a charm square, cut it diagonally in quarters, and made a simple square in a square.

The geese were charm squares cut to two 4 /12" by 2 1/2 rectangles, with 2 1/2 " squares used to make the geese points.

Warm and White inside gives this one a little firmer texture, since I will hang it on the wall primarily, in the dining room, so we can look at it and discuss it often!

Sister's Choice for Mother's Day

I do  love this pattern!  Fun, made with two and a half inch strips (jelly rolls) and so much color variety ability in each of the blocks!

Made this one for my former Mother In Law, for Mother's Day and her 86th birthday.  What a role model of Motherhood!  Thirteen children of her own, oodles of grandchildren, piles of great grands!  I love that, though I divorced her son over 30 years ago, I am always a welcome member of the family.

Pale, low volume prints and white.  Soft, 100% cotton batting.  Machine quilted in a 2" grid.

Jacob's Ladder As Well Quilt

After finishing my Jacob's Ladder lap quilt with 8" blocks, restricted to only two colors and fabrics, and straight setting, I was inspired to try it again, but differently!

This one has 4" blocks.  I used 2 charm packs, a mixture of off white/cream colored prints to contrast with some darker,  older looking small prints.  Each set of 2 charms completed 2 blocks.

Then I set them with the blocks making a circle out of the design.

Looks absolutely different!

Classic Jacob's Ladder Quilt

I have always liked the simple blocks of this particular version of Jacob's Ladder.  There are versions with more units to each block that are also beautiful, but this is the one I liked!  The blocks look like anvils, with a pattern of stairs running in one direction.  And it HAD to be in 2 colors, white and this mustardy yellow.

I made mine with 2 1/2 inch strips and 5 inch squares.
A summer finish, machine quilted 1/4 inch from the ditch and along the ditch of the center of each block.  Light, nice drape for the 100% cotton batting.   It turned out as I had hoped it would! Sold 2021

Baby Quilts for Twins

A new mom's first pregnancy was for twin girls! She selected the color "mint" for her decor.  I had started a pink quilt, but ended up really not liking it, so I was looking for a new idea when she told me her colors.  These were scraps from another project, and I always like geese units!  I had to buy the light peach, but the rest was completed from "stash."
Finished just in the nick of time, before they came home.  Congratulations!

A Quilt for Hot Wheels

Oh, my Grandson Zeke LOVES his Hot Wheels, at age 2, they are in his little hands and driving all over.  So when I saw this collection of panels, I was fascinated!  I had often thought of creating a quilt to dive little cars on, but someone else already did it!   There were 5 panels to choose from; I got RACEWAY, AROUND TOWN, and CONSTRUCTION SITE.  There was also a harbor and an airport.  I backed it with flannel (to make it less likely to move around on the floor while playing on it!) and put a thin 100% cotton batting.  The quilting was done diagonally only, about every 6 inches, to decrease unusual bumps along the way.

Big Sister Quilt

This week, I will have the joy of attending another adoption into our extended family, as the Hayden-Roberts finalize the adoption of Janelle into their family of four children.  Janelle is the oldest, and has watched as her brother's adoption was finalized, and wished and hoped for the day she would be legally adopted into her Forever Family.

The shapes and fabrics match the pieces of her little sister Francie's Big Girl Quilt, another thing tying these two together for ever.

Baby Girl Stars Quilt

My friend Sharon, my quilting partner in crime, brought me a picture of a star block and a request to make it from charms for a table runner she wanted to make.  I studied it and realized I could make it from half square triangles! I know, I am not the first to discover his, but that's how this story goes.

So I made a sample block, from scraps from a recent quilt, later finished to be on the table where everyone puts stuff as they walk in,

The baby quilt will be for a baby girl. I know who..... but it's still a surprise!

One Star Quilt

A black and white charm pack and 12 yellow charms plus some white for the star.

I machine quilted 1/4 inch from each seam on both sides, plus the outlines of the star. This could NOT have been any simpler!

Play Ball! Baby Quilt

A charm pack and 2 1/2 yards of solids combined with about 1/2 yard for the borders to put together this quilt for a new little boy.

Always fast and effective, it's a split 4-patch pattern.  Completed from start to finish in about 4 - 5 hours.

Half Square Triangles Quilt

Yes, this is another quilt made using charms and HST's. Inspired by a tutorial on Missouri Star Quilt, it used 1 pack of 39 charms (I had to add 3 fabrics myself. Hence: The Red.) and 5 5" strips of the white background. I made a generous border to make it a nice lap sized quilt.  Each charm, paired with the neutral, rendered 4 HST's. I used the method where you sew all around the two charms, then cris cross cut it into 4ths.

The colors are not my typical.  It was fun to sew, but will eventually be a gift for someone!

Geese Pieces Quilt

After watching a tutorial on Missouri Star, I pulled out a pack of 1/8" cuts from my Fabric of the Month Collection, and put this together with some neutrals for the geese.

This quilt was gifted to Sandra Cooper, in gratitude for all the help she gave our family moving our parents into Assisted Living.

Counting Crib Blanket

A very simple crib blanket (I backed a single layered blanket with flannel. There is no batting so it's not "a quilt," it is a pieced blanket.) the backing is a motorcycle print. The front is some random solid dark charms and pieces cut from a counting panel I bought EONS ago at my Anaheim Warehouse connection. It's the size of a crib, so a napping blanket, apiece to put on the floor and count with.

Do you know, I use this light weight quilt for summer napping!

Broken Dishes Quilt

After the hustle and bustle of Christmas, and a couple weeks of cool and wet weather, I wanted to make a relaxing, easy, bright summery baby quilt. Broken Dishes takes no brains to make, I can simply pick out a charm pack from my stash, sit, empty my head, and sew. Yellow!  Sounds perfect!
