Vintage 1960's era Patchwork Quilt

Isn't this fun? Made of 4 inch fabric scraps picked up online for only a few dollars, it reminds me of the fabrics my mom used to buy in the 60s.

Combined with a budget plain white cotton, simply quilted on the frame and embellished joyfully with leaves and feathers. Thin 100% cotton batting. 45 x 56 for a nice sized lap quilt.

Happy Jacob's Ladder

I made this one with slightly smaller blocks. More feminine. Light and happy fabrics then set in an around the world setting.

I have a friend from my early NICU days who is a powerhouse and genuinely kind person. Last year she fought breast cancer and us now in remission. She j6st let us know as she preferred privacy fir the vicious part of her battle.

I made this quilt to cheer and celebrate her triumphs.

Quilted on the Jazz2 with prewound bobbins it won't pretty fast. The body is a swirl meander. The borders were done on the Juki with serpentine lines surrounded by wavy lines.

Backed with pretty neutrals and the batting a 20 80 poly cotton.

Vintage Look Churn Dash

 My third practice on the new quilting frame! A coffee stained muslin and muted basic colors in the traditional churn dash block. Taking my piecing cue from Missouri Star;

Disappearing Pinwheel Churndash Quilt Block - Quilt Snips

I quilted this quite dense and in geometric lines (not curves) then used a pencil drawn stencil and regular foot on the JUKI for the borders.

Garlic Knots in Reds, Whites and Blues

Garlic Knots are an interesting block to make. I like the look of  the 6" block, so it starts with 2" strips. Thus if I buy 1/4 yards of fabric (9") I can get a 5" strip (8 charms) plus  two  2" strip (garlic knots!)  For each set of garlic knots I use 2 strips of 2 colors, a 3 1/2" strip plus a 2" strip of background.

I use the chart at this link to strip piece my  blocks:

https://abyquilts.wordpress.com/2017/08/11/garlic-knots-hack/

I decided to set my blocks into wreaths, roughly dividing my blocks into 2 color sets and then alternating them.

Finally I used the tiny scrap strips plus the leftovers cut from the STRIP SETS to widen the back.

A generous 48 x 60. SOLD to Sandra, a quilt buyer who converts quilts into jackets and resells them!

Another quilt inspired by a Missouri Star tutorial!

As I studied this, I thought I could make a 2 color quilt, and this is what resulted!

At 44 x 54, this is a comfortable lap sized quilt. Made with white muslin and red and blue scraps. I coffee stained it dyer quilting, to make it look old and loved.

Stipple free motion quilted, with a poly cotton blend batting.

2 leftover blocks sit on the back, enlarging the width of the backing.

Big T Lap Quilt

This quilt went together pretty quickly with a set of 5 coordinated fat quarters purchased a JoAnns with a 50% off coupon. I set them on a simple unbleached muslin. Each block had flying geese units that I sewed and used the "waste" to make tiny HST's. Those HST's became 3" broken dishes for lengthing the quilt. I used all but about 10" of the final leftover  1.5" strip to widen it!

I offset the sides by  4.5" to improve the overall shape of my quilt.
Three leftover blocks on the back.

Stipple quilted. Thin, poly batting.

Lemoyne Stars Reproduction Medallion Lap Quilt

Made from leftovers of a few projects, these Civil War era scraps combined nicely into a simple medallion style lap quilt. Inspired by a Missouri Star tutorial.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-mMa50YefY

I made the border from HST'S made from the same pattern as the HST'S in the stars. There are 3 different neutrals, but they are real close in value.

The quilt pattern used very different borders, but this is the central medallion I liked so much!

The back was widened with 2 2.5" strips.
