Baby Under The Sea

I just finished another darling baby quilt using the Missouri Star tutorial on the Ohio Star Quilt.    https://youtu.be/Dh6K4zUnfw8?si=9x0Cp4Y-dKvSJKfl

Made for Virginia, the organist at St Andrew's for a grand-nephew. She liked the quilt I made recently for Patty and asked for something like that. https://anita-rancherita.blogspot.com/2023/10/outer-space-baby-quilt.html?m=0

The fabrics for the most part came from my Under The Sea fabric collection, inspired by baby quilts made for my Grandson and other fishy quilts made over the years.

The back is a great piece I picked up at JoAnn at their Black Friday sale for $3.99/yards and the scraps and bits leftover from the tiny 6 1/2" Ohio Star blocks.

The sashing is a great watery swirl with cornerstones of shells and fish in a pretty aqua green.

The overall quilting is big curvy circles and serpentine lines in the borders.

Bedspread for Ezekiel

Out of SCRAPS I was able to make a bedspread for Ezekiel for our house when he stays here. Very similar to the one I made when he turned 6 (for his house) this is fish/water/nautical themed fabrics cut into 5" charms. They are then placed into 4 patches with a diamond center in rows.

I ran out of charms but wanted it a little longer.... and found a great quarter of bright green tropical fish placed along the top.

Simply pieced back with a white box for an inscription and some sharks! My personalized tag and an "I Love You" tag on the front.

The quilting, easily done on the frame, includes watery swirls in the top portion and curly q's in the body. Each "stone" is densely stitched to smash them down and have the blocks more prominently featured.

Ezekiel age 8 1/2.

Ezekiel's Fish Birthday Quilt

For Ezekiels 7th birthday I completed a twin bed sized quilt for his big boy bed. I collected the fish themed fabrics over several years.... I PLANNED to make this for his THIRD birthday but you know.....

It's colorful and cozy. I simply made 4 patches from charms. The sashing is a water blue and bright yellow cornerstones.

It's bordered with sharks!

The backing has assorted sharks, whales and fish.

I hope he's not too disappointed that it's not a radio controlled monster truck.....

Quilts for Twins!

A new family has been created and this joy calls for the creation of twin quilts!  Two little boys, born to a very athletic family that enjoys all sorts of outdoor activities.  Biking, camping, hiking, and playing with their dogs are all part of the fun that await these two boys.

The quilts are each made with a charm pack of bright solids, and share the same background "water" fabric as well as sharks in the borders.  I have made both patterns before, they are both fun quilts to make.

Tropical Fish Quilt

This little gem was another one inspired by a tutorial by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star Quilts.

https://quiltingtutorials.com/tutorial/make-a-summer-school-quilt-with-jenny

I made mine with a water background I scored on Summer Clearance at Quilt-In-A-Day and 25 charms from my batik charm squares box, so they are left overs and random charms.

Quilted by machine in a lazy, swirly, watery horizontal flow representing water, its the perfect size for hanging on the wall in the dining room.

AYOQ: Sea Creatures and Numbers Quilt

The 6-month baby quilt for my Grandson is June, and here in San Diego that means beaches and sail boats.  In the fall of 2015, his home was destroyed by a fire, and in it was the original June quilt.  It was my favorite of the yearly quilts, with sailboats and bright colors.

To replace it, I decided on something totally different!  I researched cartoon sea creatures on google, and drew some out on 5" muslin squares, then tinted them with inktense pencils.  Then I water painted them, and they became color fast and permanent. I then alternated with squares from a charm pack themed sea creatures and numbers.  Some of the drawn blocks included numbers and counting circles.

This was a real fun replacement quilt to make to photograph Zeke on his 18 month portrait.

Hawaiian Baby Fish

My best friend Sprout bought me a package of 4" Hawaiian cotton squares she found in the back of  a small drug store in Hawaii.  They were obviously cut from someone's scraps, tied with a ribbon.  Years later a friend of ours had her first baby.  She had married her husband in Hawaii, o it seemed a perfect pairing!  I dyed white muslin light blue with acrylic paint, then used rubber fish stamps in acrylic paints to stamp sea creatures on the plain blocks.  They alternate with 4-patches for this sweet baby quilt!
