Ezekiel's Fish Birthday Quilt

For Ezekiels 7th birthday I completed a twin bed sized quilt for his big boy bed. I collected the fish themed fabrics over several years.... I PLANNED to make this for his THIRD birthday but you know.....

It's colorful and cozy. I simply made 4 patches from charms. The sashing is a water blue and bright yellow cornerstones.

It's bordered with sharks!

The backing has assorted sharks, whales and fish.

I hope he's not too disappointed that it's not a radio controlled monster truck.....

15 Christmas Baby Quilts

I have often thought of making baby quilts for those babies in the NICU at Christmas time. Well, now retired I contacted the manager of the NICU I retired from and asked how many quilts could she use to name sure every baby got one. 15. Okay... I can do that!

Each quilt is 32 inches square, made from 4 inch patches in combinations of reds, greens, blues and Christmas neutrals. No 2 have the exact same border.....

Backed in white muslin, they can be signed by all the nurses and personalized with each babies name.

Merry Christmas 🌲🌲 Babies!

Sweet Baby Girl Snail Trail

This is a labor intense (cut, piece, trim, piece trim, piece, trim!) Block but so PRETTY!

I made it for my friend and the medical director of the NICU I worked in for 23 of my 30 year career. It is for his first grandchild. I don't know his daughter (I remember when SHE was born! Ay ay ay!) But Dr Mo is a wise mentor and leader and a genuinely nice man.

I left space on the back for the baby's name, birthdate, and weight. Sweet hearts on the back. Free motion quilted in a lazy meander.

A collection of mostly pale pinks with a few farmers for variety contrast nicely with a floral white on white.

Some pink and red skulls in the border and a clean white binding complete this quilt!

Christmas Quilts!

These 3 quilts and the tree ornaments came about as a split pinwheel. After making a pinwheel from 2 (9) inch squares (a quarter yard) I split it into 9 equal squares. The center pinwheels became the ornaments.

The HST's became broken dishes blocks.

Look at that binding stripe!  SOLD!

The little sides turned into windmill Blocks. SOLD!

Another darling Christmas stripe.

And I cut (2) 1 1/2 inch by 9 inch strips for the tiny 6 patch blocks.

Betty's Healing Quilt: Double Square Star

My Niece and God Daughter Betty has had a rough year, and I decided to make a quilt for her to wrap up in and know she is covered and loved by her auntie.

This quilt is one I really enjoy making! Made with a charm pack, 11 background strips and 5 accent strips, it comes together like magic! I added a border from stash that is over 20 years old, I never finished the quilt I originally bought it for!

The quilting is a free motion meander. I used 80% cotton 20% poly batting for a luxurious, warm, cuddly quilt.

A little handmade tag.

The backing from stash with a spot for an inscription.

I made this from 5" charms, several years ago, finished recently and offered up for sale on Etsy. It's scrappy, made completely from stash scraps!

I love this pattern!

Tiny Pinwheels Quilt

This small 31 inch square quilt was made with the leftovers from my turn dash quilt. The colors came from a fabric reproduction collection from the mid eighteen hundreds.. the tiny pinwheels are just three inches each and they resulted from using a Missouri Star quilt tutorial pattern called disappearing pinwheels #2.

I had used a set of fat quarters and originally cut the fabric to an eight and a half inch square to begin construction and the little pinwheels were the center block that I did not use in the original quilt.

This little quilt then was set with different whites are neutrals and then it has a general generous 5 inch border. These colors of course came from my stash.

This little quilt is offered for sale in my Etsy store.

Reproduction Fabric Churn Dash Lap Quilt

Gifted in May 2022 to Mrs Pam, Ezekiel's former kindergarten teacher, upon her retirement.  The quilt traveled through the whole school and gathered pictures and names of her current and former kindergarten kids before being presented.

The fabrics for this quilt came from a fabric of the month collection I purchased in 2001, and the prints were reproduced from fabric samples housed in the American Textile History Museum of Lowell, Massachusetts. The rich color samples are from 1876 through 1899.

The block I chose for these fabrics is called churn dash. It is believed to have originated in the United States between 1800 and 1849. The block got its name because the middle symbol looks like a butter churn and the stick was called the dash.

This lap quilt is 44 by 56 inches and it is quilted in a lazy meandering design. The batting is a thin poly. It used 7 fat quarters, and neutrals and borders and binding from stash. It is set on point with half blocks along the sides and quarter blocks in the corners.  The block is a modification of Missouri Star Disappearing Pinwheel block tutorial. The pinwheels will appear in another quilt.

Cheerful Bright Yellow Star

I made this quilt from the last strips of a jelly roll that I had already used to make other quilts. I had just about enough to complete the star which is a Missouri Star quilt pattern called binding tool star. It's actually a pretty fast pattern to put together, I completed it in one day

I then overall stipple quilted the quilt except I put a cable in the three and a half inch border. Because the strips were so light I decided to use a bright yellow for my background.

I had just perfect amount of the yellow left over to use on the back as well.

This quilt sold very quickly on Etsy to my old friend Jennifer Lieuallen. She bought it for her first grandchild. Interestingly I made the grandchild's father a baby quilt when he was a baby!

Daffodils for Resilience Quilt

I was invited to make a quilt to be auctioned at an annual meeting for a local non-profit that my husband works for. This year's theme was Resilience and Recovery. The person asking me to make the quilt mentioned that the daffodil is often considered a symbol of resilience because it is the first flower to bloom in the spring after the long cold winter.

I drafted the pattern after looking at several ideas on Pinterest, and getting some construction ideas from Jenny Doan at Missouri Star.

I had only a few days to complete this quilt and the blocks had a lot of moving parts. So I completed nine blocks and used one of my dramatic circle of nine block settings to fill out the area of this lap quilt. To make the quilt longer I added a row on top and on bottom of flying geese blocks. I chose traditional colors for the daffodils yellows oranges with green leaves and the background fabrics have gray in them because gray to me indicates steel or strength.

I used 100% cotton batting, a bright quilt back, an an easy meandered free motion quilting. I googled DAFFODIL SYMBOLS and took a few notes to complete the description and inscription for this quilt.

Christmas Signature Quilt

I made this quilt with plans to sell it in my etsy store.  My friend Min suggested Ohio Star blicks, and   I thought a signature quilt would be an attractive seller.

I really like this circle of nine setting. Using only 9 blocks and some spacers, it's very dramatic. This quilt has lots of blank white space for signatures. I left the white space unquited for ease of signing.

I completed another one from the same set of blocks and also listed it for sale.

Spooky Spider Web Quilt

I posted on my Facebook asking for suggestions on what to make next. The idea that had the most votes was a Halloween quilt. I've made a few but you know what?  It's October and it sounded like fun!

I have a nice Halloween collection and it was fun rooting around in it looking for 2 and  2 1/2 inch strips.

Then some solid black off the bolt and a great triangle ruler and off I went!

I free motion quilted the website in black thread. It's 40 inches square and there was only a TINY leftover scrap! A few of the web slices are pieced leftovers.

Square Knot Quilt

Made from blues and yellows from stash, the block pattern had been calling to me for a time. It was easy enough to make, just lots of pieces for each 8 inch block.

My initial idea was to make alternating blue or yellow blocks, but the yellows seemed dull. I then concentrated on blue blocks for a bit. I ended up using 6 of the 8 yellow blocks with 2 on the back.

The quilt is quilted in an all over meander but I tried a pattern in the border.

I can't quite get the technique for ruler FMQ, so I trace the template and slow the machine speed and draw the pattern with thread.

It's a generous 48 by 52 inches.

Inspired by a Missouri Star Quilt tutorial Square Knot.
