Betty's Healing Quilt: Double Square Star

My Niece and God Daughter Betty has had a rough year, and I decided to make a quilt for her to wrap up in and know she is covered and loved by her auntie.

This quilt is one I really enjoy making! Made with a charm pack, 11 background strips and 5 accent strips, it comes together like magic! I added a border from stash that is over 20 years old, I never finished the quilt I originally bought it for!

The quilting is a free motion meander. I used 80% cotton 20% poly batting for a luxurious, warm, cuddly quilt.

A little handmade tag.

The backing from stash with a spot for an inscription.

Courthouse Steps

This joyful quilt is the only time I have ever made this pattern: Steps to the Courthouse.  It's like a log cabin, but the pieces for opposite colors, rather than circling around. Easy and fun to make, perfect for scraps, don't know why I haven't made this again!

I made this quilt to celebrate a return to quilting after a sad period in my life.  Several years later, Christina told me her young daughter used it at night to keep monsters from under her bed!  I must have filled the quilt with joyful enerrgy when I sewed it!

Prayer Quilt for my Dad

Many years ago, my Dad faced kidney cancer, and it's been nearly 10 years.  Hehas had a recurrence, but is again in a solid remission, enjoying a great, active life in his late 80's.  Whooping It Up, even!
When first diagnosed, I made this quilt from scraps that included scraps my Mom had given me when they retired and left California.  I took it to church where it was blessed.  Members of the congregation tied knots in the quilt with each knot signifying a prayer someone offered for my Dad.  Later on, my Mom hand quilted the quilt to strengthen the fibers and fabric of this quilt.
I took it to him in Texas, while he was in ICU after surgery.  He used it during his stay and after as he healed and recovered at home.  He still keeps it at the foot of his bed.

Batik Rail Fences

Super simple rail fence blocks, placed on point for a husband and wife.  With the feminine one, I decided to group similar colored blocks, and for the masculine one I randomized the blocks.  A few of "his" strips made it into her quilt and vice versa. The masculine blocks were a bit larger, so the quilt turned out larger.
