Vintage 1960's era Patchwork Quilt

Isn't this fun? Made of 4 inch fabric scraps picked up online for only a few dollars, it reminds me of the fabrics my mom used to buy in the 60s.

Combined with a budget plain white cotton, simply quilted on the frame and embellished joyfully with leaves and feathers. Thin 100% cotton batting. 45 x 56 for a nice sized lap quilt.

Vintage Look Churn Dash

 My third practice on the new quilting frame! A coffee stained muslin and muted basic colors in the traditional churn dash block. Taking my piecing cue from Missouri Star;

Disappearing Pinwheel Churndash Quilt Block - Quilt Snips

I quilted this quite dense and in geometric lines (not curves) then used a pencil drawn stencil and regular foot on the JUKI for the borders.

Antique Lace Lap Quilt

Another quilt inspired by a Missouri Star tutorial!

Make an "Antique Lace" Quilt with Jenny!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppcYmt_Nj-U

As I studied this, I thought I could make a 2 color quilt, and this is what resulted!

At 44 x 54, this is a comfortable lap sized quilt. Made with white muslin and red and blue scraps. I coffee stained it dyer quilting, to make it look old and loved.

Stipple free motion quilted, with a poly cotton blend batting.

2 leftover blocks sit on the back, enlarging the width of the backing.

Vintage Style Inked Baby Quilt

Using old ink transfers from Aunt Martha's and then tinting the fabric with ink pens, I reproduced a look from the 50's I have always liked. The quilt was then machine stippled and washed to crinkle. Looks 50 years old, doesn't it?

Lap Quilt from Vintage Linens #3

This is my third such quilt. I made myself a lap quilt, a baby sized one, and then this one from leftovers and scraps. The fabrics are from garage and estate sales, goodwill and second hand shops, my mother's collections, other random boxes of scraps.

Gifted to Debbie in 2021 after being signed and dedicated by the nurses in NICU.

Hexies Baby Quilt

I made this quilt following a tutorial on the Missouri Star WEB site.  I had the template already, since the hexie pattern is one I am very inspired by.  It is made with a charm pack of reproduction fabrics and a yard plus of Kona Snow.  I quilted it in rows and 3 columns.  I feel like I should spill some coffee on it to stain it so it looks more authentic!

Linens and Such Quilt

I made a small version some time ago, and ever since wanted to make one I could use for napping in the afternoon.  The "fabrics" in this quilt are linens; pieces cut from tablecloths, napkins, bathrobes and such.  Some were my mother's; some purchased at an estate sal shop.  The blank white blocks are cut from the same tablecloth I cut my Grandson's Baptismal Outfit from.  So a piece of him, when I snuggle for a nap, stays with me!

Grandmother's Vintage Blocks

A friend of mine recently sent me these photos of a quilt I made for her way back in 2002.  She brought me some Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks her grandmother had made. I decided rather than trying to attach them and finish the quilt that way I would applique several on a muslin background.  Some repros fabric in the border, and a large stitch hand quilting finished this little memory quilt!

Lena's Quilt

Several years ago my friend Sharon brought me a stack of HST's that she found when cleaning out her mother's things.  Sharon vaguely remembered her mother working on the blocks when she was a girl, the 1940's or 50's. She asked me could I put the random blocks together into some kind of memory quilt. This is what I came up with:
Lena had pretty much already constructed the 25-patch blocks, all fabrics and arrangements are original. I find is so charming!

Making Memories

A friend brought me 2 old quilt tops, sewn many years ago by her mother.  This friend wished to divide the 2 tops among 5 family members, so each could have something made by her mother.  I told her they would be small, wall quilts, or table runners.  She agreed that would be the perfect size.  She said she preferred the blue quilt, but thought the rest might prefer the other quilt.

I was very excited to do this challenge!  Since it wasn't MY mother's work, cutting into it felt exciting, and I looked forward to seeing what I might render from these 2 quilt tops.

I started by cutting out the center of the postage stamp quilt.  It was perfect, glorious, and I LOVED the color use.  I was very tempted to keep this one for myself, I loved it that much!
#4 was made from blocks cut from the 4 corners of the quilt.  #5, from blocks along the sides.  #3 also blocks from the sides, and I found a purple from my stash to make a centered design. #2 was the lone quilt made from the blue and white.  I carefully selected the blocks from the quilt that had a lot of variety, and a little brown stain to keep it real.  I machine quilted them all fairly dense, backed them with unbleached muslin, and gave them a gentle wash then into the dryer to wrinkle them up a bit.

This was a very fun project!

Embroidered Blocks

I got the idea for this from a quilt I saw on Pinterest. http://yarnstorm.blogs.com/jane_brocket/2014/03/garden-party.html
I knew I had found the project for the vintage linens I had purchased at estate sales and had in a box in the garage.  I also had a cut up house dress with woven girls and boys I got at a thrift store season end "everything fre" sale in Texas while visiting my dad. I cut 5 1/2 inch squares and put them together in a simple 5X5 grid.

It would like pretty edged with the vintage hand crocheted lace I cut off the edge of one of the tablecloths.

Vintage Squares by Ruth & Anne

While visiting my Dad and his wife Ruth, I found a block in the pile Ruth had going "to the craft club." It was the one with yellow and orange. She told me it was an unfinished doll-house quilt.  She didn't remember when she made it, but maybe in the 60's?  When I said I'd take it home and make it into a table runner, she rustled around and found a few more unfinished blocks.  They were in various stages of finished, colors that had nothing to do with each other, related only by the fact that she made them many years earlier.
So here they are!
I added a few strips from the scrap bin, looking for circa 60's things. I love what it is now!  Do you?

Scrap Plates

An early quilt, made from scraps of clothes, some going back to high school dresses!
Gifted to my Mother-In-Law.
