Amish Garlic Knots

Of course it's not an Amish quilt! But the colors are inspired by the beautiful black backgrounds and solids featured in Amish Quilting.

The black has bold Grey free motion quilting on it. I guess I thought the quilting wouldn't be so prominent!

A leftover on the back.

SOLD on etsy to Sandra!

Sandra then nade it into a dramatic jacket. Wow!

Drama in Black Sisters Choice Quilt

I really enjoyed making this block and wanted to make it again in striking solids and black.  It's very jelly roll friendly, and I watched a You Tube Video tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company to get the directions.  Just 13 left over jelly roll strips, (See NICU for March Of Dimes Quilt) ) and some black from my bolt (yes, of course I have a bolt of black!) and a couple of blocks at a time this quilt came together.

Dora is one of my Grandson's Other Grandma's (yes, it's complicated!) And I feel blessed to have her as part of the "Village" that Ezekiel has united!

A Modern Baby Quilt

An old friend Dena is becoming a first time grandma, just a month after my joyful experience.  I made her children's baby quilts and now what delight to make her first grandchild  quilt!
Pure solid half-square triangles, made from 2 charm packs, with a couple mottled colors and 1 strip, the asymmetrically bordered.  The child's sex is a delightful secret to the family, so I needed to make a bold gender neutral statement.

Ocean Berry Half Square Triangles

I WANTED to buy some charm packs, solid collections from Connecting Threads named "Ocean" and "Berry."  But I was on Lent Fabric Diet, so I didn't.  Then WHAT DO YOU THINK?  I found a box labeled "solid charms" and there they were!  I already OWNED these charm packs!

So I sewed them right up into HST's.... Half Square Triangles.  More or less I paired a light and a dark charm, and made each set of 2 charms become 4 HST's on the bias.  Nice technique.  And they go together well, since you can slightly stretch or contract them to come together sharply!

I made 2 sets:  Ocean, and Berry.  Then I went to the design table and started playing around.

I really like it! Each block is around 3", so the quilt is around 36 X 45. Dark blue, mottled binding, also a clearance find at Connecting Threads.  I quilted along the diagonals.

Happy with my little quilt!

Update: In 2021 I started selling quilts from my collection. Time to make more room to make more quilts. This quilt sold to another artist who remade nit into a gorgeous jacket!

A wall quilt in black and solids

This wall quilt was inspired by my desire to design the border that twisted and crossed.  I made geese in solid colors and button hole appliqued teardrops.  It is hand quilted.

Hugs and a few Kisses

Drew my inspiration from an old book with a photo of a 1930's Amish quilt for this one.   It's a generous lap quilt, and the batting is a heavy 100% cotton.  I made this quilt for Pete to place on the love-seat in his office.
The circle is made of 4 bow-tie blocks.  The X is simply the same 4 bow tie blocks placed with their centers together.

Raffle Quilt (Waterfall)

I don't know the name of this design, I have always called it "Waterfall."   Each block is identical in design, 3 4-patches and a solid square.  The overall design emerges as I lay out the blocks and turn some this way and some that.  I have made this quilt many times; from a healing quilt, to a baby girls quilt, to an antique reproduction and this one that went to a raffle for a fundraiser for a youth at risk prevention program.  Most of the quilts I made I forgot to photograph!
