Jewel Tone Rectangles for Baby

A charm pack, some white on white and a few hours makes a sweet little baby quilt!

I continue practicing my free hand quilting having fun especially in the borders. I used a wishbone and asterisk for the rows.

A stripe for the binding finishes this little jewel!

Bedspread for Ezekiel

Out of SCRAPS I was able to make a bedspread for Ezekiel for our house when he stays here. Very similar to the one I made when he turned 6 (for his house) this is fish/water/nautical themed fabrics cut into 5" charms. They are then placed into 4 patches with a diamond center in rows.

I ran out of charms but wanted it a little longer.... and found a great quarter of bright green tropical fish placed along the top.

Simply pieced back with a white box for an inscription and some sharks! My personalized tag and an "I Love You" tag on the front.

The quilting, easily done on the frame, includes watery swirls in the top portion and curly q's in the body. Each "stone" is densely stitched to smash them down and have the blocks more prominently featured.

YELLOW! Around The World

I had an idea to do an around tgr world quilt in bright happy yellows with some other bright to define the shapes of the trips.

This is IT! I am so pleased with it. I collected the yellows and the bright on a trip fabric shopping up in Anaheim earlier this year. I cut the 6 strips 2" wide and sewed a tube. Each Blick then is a 9" square with 36 patches.  That totals 720 patches on thus lap quilt!

I used a very light yellow for that backing with a random left over block. I free hand quilted an overall curvy meander in the quilt body with a geometric variation of a  wishbone in the border.

For Lauren from St. Barts, for her 40th birthday.

Pastel Rectangles for a Baby

I have a sweet hearted friend who regularly reaches out to me with a description of a friend she would like to gift a quilt to. This description was, Mom is a 45 year old epidemiologist who had a 5 pound baby girl a month early. The dad is from The Netherlands. Their home is subtle and understated.  Can you do something geometric in solid colors?

I like to finish the borders on my regular machine.

I put a small top together of jewel,  tone on tone rectangles totally color jumbled. Sent it to Debbie, who loved it. But I thought on it and the next morning I selected a charm pack of pastels from my stash and made the same blocks but set them like THIS:

We both agreed on the second little quilt top and I added a border, quilted it on my frame in soft rounded motifs to soften the angles.  With a pretty pink and white back and a pink binding it is complete!

Bold Rail Fence Quilt

This classic was inspired by Missouri Star tutorial

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PVIYk-2Ie8

I even used the border blocks idea with leftovers as the tutorial suggested.

I put this bold lap quilt together with 2 1/2 inch strips cut from Anaheim M & L fabric strips. I quilted the borders densely and the body of the quilt much less dense.

This was the project where my new Jazz2 started to behave (I figured it out) and I quilted it start to finish over 2 days.

Quilt for Great Grand Baby Girl!

We are going to be GREAT GRANDPARENTS! Too exciting! Miranda and Alex are due soon, about 6 weeks from now. She asked for lavender and I showed her some of my fabrics. Lavender is not my usual choice but I did have these brights from JoAnn Fabrics Quilters Showcase collection. Add to that some solid lavender, light green and pink solids from stash.... half square triangles... and a generous crib sized baby quilt is created!

This was my first not "practice" Quilt I did on my frame. Didn't go as easy as I planned! Machine failed in the first row and actually took it in for service twice during the quilting. But learned a lot and feel like I'm ready to start tackling more complex projects!

Vintage Look Churn Dash

 My third practice on the new quilting frame! A coffee stained muslin and muted basic colors in the traditional churn dash block. Taking my piecing cue from Missouri Star;

Disappearing Pinwheel Churndash Quilt Block - Quilt Snips

I quilted this quite dense and in geometric lines (not curves) then used a pencil drawn stencil and regular foot on the JUKI for the borders.
